Reception of Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT)

  1. Q: Are all the properties under Goodwell able to receive DTT broadcasting?
A: Yes. In as early as January 2008, Goodwell already had the DTT reception system installed in all the properties managed by Goodwell.

  2. Q: What do I need to add in order to receive DTT?
A: You need to buy an integrated digital TV set or add a set-top box with digital terrestrial TV reception capabilities to your existing TV set in order to receive DTT. In the Voluntary Labelling Scheme for Digital Terrestrial Television Receivers by the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, labels will be affixed to those receivers that are capable of reception of local DTT, serving as consumer guidance. You can visit the following website for more details on the labelled receivers: http://www.digitaltv.gov.hk/consumer/Higher-tier.pdf

  3. Q: Can I watch digital TV or HDTV with the conventional TV set I am using now?
A: Yes. You need to add a DTT receiver and connect it with the TV set through VIDEO-IN, S-VIDEO, YPbPr, etc., then it will be ready to receive DTT. But owing to the resolution of conventional TV set, you may not be able to enjoy the advantages of HDTV. And DTT pictures are certainly better than conventional ones as they are free from “ghosting” and “snowing”.

  4. Q: When watching DTT, why are there problems of judder or motion fluctuation, and even no DTT stations can be found sometimes?
A: This is because the DTT reception is not strong enough. There can be various causes for the weak source, normally including the deterioration of input wire, poor contact of wire, poor connection of antenna, poor connection wire and change of position of antenna. If you encounter the above problems, please contact the Service Centre for arrangement of inspection by contractor.

  5. Q: After DTT is installed, can I still watch conventional TV programmes and Satellite TV programmes?
A: Yes. If you are using DTT receiver, please set up the connection according to the user manual of the DTT receiver. Please be reminded to connect the antenna output of the receiver to the antenna input of the TV set. The original TV signals can then be received.

  6. Q: If I have installed Pay TV, can the DTT signal be received?
A: It depends. If the Pay TV you have installed is broadband TV system (with the use of telephone line / cable), chances are high that the DTT signal can be received. If the Pay TV installed is Cable TV, it depends on whether Cable TV have upgraded their system. For more details, please contact our Service Centre.

  7. Q: I used to subscribe to Cable TV, but the service has already been terminated. Why can’t the DTT signal be received still?
A: This is because the supplier of Cable TV has connected the unit antenna to its system. When the service was terminated, they did not transfer the antenna back to the communal TV system. If Cable TV has not upgraded its system, no DTT signal can be received. You can contact the supplier and request them to connect the unit antenna back to the communal TV system.
